WAR OVER!
OFFICIAL INTIMATION. A telegram despatched from Wellington by the Prime Minister the Right Hon. W. F. Massey, M.P.) to all post-offices was received in Pukekohe this (Tuesday) morning at nine o'clock announcing that an armistice with Germany had been signed. On the posting-up of the telegram at the post-office in Pukekohe, there was a complete absence of the wild scenes of enthusiasm that prevailed on Friday last, the community respecting the wishes ot the Health authorities that no noise should be made to disturb those ill in bed suffering from influenza. Flags, however, quickly adorned the streets, and joyful countenances among those who still have the advantage of good health were general. The post-office was closed at 10.15 for the rest of the day, and business premises were shut at noon. The telephone bureau is, however, to be open from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7.30 p.m. to 11 p.m. In due course, when normal conditions again prevail, arrangements will be made for a fitting celebration in Pukekohe of the success of the Allied armies.
