MERCER.
MERCER TO WN BOARD The ordinary monthly meeting of the Mercer Town Board was held on Thursday, October 24th. Present: Messrs Valeutiue (chairman) S. Carter, Gillibrand, Gallery and Sellwood, with the clerk (Mr H. J. Taplay). A letter was received fruni the Manurewa Town Board advocating that the date of elections of Town Boards should be altered to some dato to coincide with the end of the financial year in March On the motion of the Chairman seconded by Mr l-'ellwood it was resolved to support the movement Tenders for the lease of the quarry reserve were received from Mr R. C. Glass and the Mercer Domain Board, the former's tendor being accepted.
It wai resolved t) write to the Trustees of the Church of England and Roman Catholic Church requesting the removal of gorse and blackberries from their respective properties.
The clerk was directed to write to Mr Bates drawing attention to the irregular lighting of Bates' street lamp. It was arranged th'it nonces should be posted up calling public attention to the fact that on and after the Ist December next all cattle and horses found straying in the Town District would be imprisoned and owners prosecuted. It was agreed to invite tenders for the lease of the cemetery reserve for a term of five years.
The next ordinary sitting of the Mercer Magistrate's Court is fixed for Tuesday, the 12th inst. Included amongst the cases to be heard are two informations against Meremere and Ngaruawahia residents for allowing llaxuiill refuse to run into the Waikato River. The charges are laid under the Fisheries Act. See al«o page 1,
