MERCER.

At the Mercer Magistrate's Court last Tuesday Ernest Randall Oubitt appeared to answer a charge that at Whangamarino on September 14th he did cruelly ill-treat a cow by striking her on the head and body with a stick so as to cause her to bleed at the nose. The incident was witnessed by some railway gangers and the police were informed. Defendant pleaded not guilty and stated that the cow was an obstinate animal. Defendant was fined £2 and was also ordered to pay 22s Court costs.
