Monthly Meeting.
The monthly meeting of theManukau County Council was held at the Council Chambers, Auckland on Tuesday last, the members present being Crs A. D. Bell (chairman), F. H. Brownhill, A. Muir, F. Waters, J. Luke, and A. E. Hattaway, with the Clerk (Mr Alex Bell. LITIGATION THREATENED On behalf of Mr J. Baird, of Ardmore, a firm of solicitors wrote com plaining of the Council's action iii causing water from the road to draiii on to Mr Baird's land. Failing action by the Council they intimated that the matter would have to go be fore the Supreme Court. The letter was "received."
SIGN POSTS The New Zealand Farmers' Union forwarded the following resolution and asked for the Council's favourable consideration thereof, viz, "That the vaiious County Councils be urged to erect finger posts at all junctions of main roads and byroads with main roads for the guidance of the travelling public.*—lt was decided to take steps to have finger posts erected as suggested.
ORERE SETTLEMENT
A deputation, consisting of Messrs A. Rowlands, J. A. Gandy, C. Grosvenor, W. Cashmore, R. ActonAdams, and F. Kersley, settlers from Orere Settlement, waited on the Council to ascertain if it would consent to its Overseer preparing an estimate of the cost of metalling, forming and culverting roads in this settlement.
Speaking on behalf of the deputation, Mr Rowlands said it was desired that they should have a suitable metalled road to enable them to havs proper access to their properties. The present state of the road was intolerable. What they wanted was a geod road to Orere from the Ness Valley road. The Chairman remarked there was no possible chance of having the road work done out of rates, but Mr Rowlands replied that the settlers were quite prepared to have themselves taxed for the purpose. In the subsequent discussion it was pointed out that about 21 miles of road would have to be metalled. The Overseer was instructed to inspect the aiea and to submit &t the next meeting a rough estimate of the cost of the proposed work. COMPLAINTS AND REQUESTS The Ardmore Telephone Co. wrote asking permission to erect a telephone line from Clevedon Exchange as far as Mr Boyd's bridge on the main road to Ardmore.—Permission was granted subject to the work being completed to the approval of the Council. A complaint from Messrs Burnside Bros, of Ardmore, as to the state of the road running past the Ardmore Hall was referred to the Overseer to inspect and report on at the next meeting.
The District Telegraph Engineer wrote asking the Council to arrange to have the trees felled at the edge of the main South road north of Papakura as they constituted a daDger to the telegraph and telephone.—Left in the hands of the Overseer.
Mr Duncan Fraser, of Clevedon, drew the Council's attention to the unsatisfactory state of th« main road between Clevedon and Papakura.— The Overseer having reported that in his opinion the road was in fairly good order no action was taken. Mr P. 8. Gee, of Clevedon, asked the Council to attend to the storm water lying on the road in front of his property. He also enquired as to the cost of reforming and mt. tailing the Quarry road into Thorp's quarry, for which he understood the expenditure had already Veen £2OO. —The Overseer reported that the road work referred to had up to date cost £9B Bs. The matter relative to the first portion of the letter was left in his hands to deal with MISCELI.ANEOI'S It was decided to offer Mr 0 Dreardon i> 10 towards the consiruction of a drain on to his properry at I'apatoetoe on condition he laid the pipes to the Council's satisfaction. A slaughterhouse license granted to Messrs Hawthorne and Munro, Ltd, of Clevedon.

The Oveiseer (Mr C. Dixon) reported, inter alia, as follows : Mencore Hiding-Tho piece of road from Mangere bridge is rapidly breaking up and repair work of a permanent nature, is necessary. I'apatoetoe liiding—The roads in this riding are in a very fair condition. The authorised work of ploughing the Great South road has been completed. i'apakura Riding—Ploughing the Great South road has been completed and work on a further section • f at.out half a mile in the Town Hoard area is in progress. The report was adopted.
