OTAHUHU.
ANGLICAN CHURCH CENTRAL FUND
A meeting of parishioners of the Otahuhu Anglican Church was held in the Parish Hall recently to hear addresses on the establishment of the proposed Central Fund, The Yicaf [the Rev H. Mason) occupied the chair. The Rev J. L. Kayll ex* plained that the object of the movement was to create a fund in order to guarantee adequate stipends to the clergy. Under the present haphazard way of providing salaries, he said, there were some ministers who were in receipt of less than £l5O per year. That was a matter to be deplored, as it was imperative, especially considering the present nigh cost of living, to give living salaries if the best men to be procured for the advancement of Qoa's work. It was the aim of the promoters to raise a sum of £SOOO by the time Synod met in October, If all contributed only a small amount its accomplishment would be assured. If r C. J. Tonks, of Auckland, as a ! business man, also spoke. At a subsequent meeting of the Vestry the question of giving support to the objects of the Central Fund was discussed. The Rev H. Mason drafted a circular in which the help of parishioners would be asked for, also stating that members of the Vestry would make a canvass of the district. It was suggested that to arouse additional interest in the scheme, an endeavour should be made to invite the Bishop of Auckland to visit Otahuhu. With this object in view, the Rev Mason interviewed His Lordship, who has consented to come to Otahuhu on Sunday, October sth.
The Rev H. Mason (Vicar of Otahuhu) delivered an address to the schoolchildren last Friday (French Day) on "France and eur debt to her." The juveniles listened attentively to the words spoken and at the close the speaker was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
