The final of a series of social--under the auspices of the Church of England Girls' Friendly Society eventuated in the Parish Hall on Thurday last when a thoroughly en j oyable evening was spent. Yoca 1 items were rendered by Mrs Moran, Miss Christie (Auckland) and Mr A. McDonald and recitations by Miss McArthur and Mr Bullen, while the Rev. H. Mason, who presided, gave a humorous reading. A. pianoforte solo was executed by Mrs Armstrong and instrumental items were played by Miss Fraser, and Messrs Robertson and W. J. Pinnison. Dancing was subsequently entered into with zest.

A short sitting of the Otahuhu Magistrate's Court was held yesterday, MrF. K. Hunt, 8.M., presiding. John James Brooks, for assaulting a Railway Ticket Inspector was convicted and fined 10s and was ordered to pay costs amounting to 21s. Judgment by default was entered for W. Thompson and A. Coe in a claim of £6 4 s 2d. Messrs Andrew and Andrew claimed from G. Gardner £2 16s 9d, defendant counter-claim-ing 15s. After hearing evidence His Worship gave judgment for defendant in either instance, each party to pay his own costs.

An urgent appeal is again being made for warm woollen clothing such as heavy underpants, heavy shirts, heavy singlets, jerseys, socks, mittens, wristlets, Balaclavas and mufflers, or cash to be spent in England for the benefit of the minesweepers. Parcels should be left with Mrs Muir, Hon. Sec. of the W.C.T.U , Panmure Road, Otahuhu, on or be fore 30th September.
