Red Cross Figures
Sir—What is it that Pukekohe is suffering from ' J . Does apathy of the people prevail, or are the inhabitants hard up or mem ' Why I ask- this is that your last issue provides food for thought. In it ono read that Pukekohe had only subscribed £9OO out of £IOOO aimrd at for the Red Cross, whilst in another part of the paper it was reported that the Manukau County Carnival returns showed that Clevedon had raised Mangero £2Ol s, and Papatoetoe £l!i2"). Perhaps it may lie said that country magnates helped to swell the totals in those places and that may bo so. But lot me instance Papakura, which is a much smaller township than Pukekohe and is not such a large centre. Companions in that way are not favourable to Papakura and yet Papakura comes to light with £l'V2"> or more than double Pukokohe's "great effort." Again I ask "What is the matter with Pukekohe?"—Yours, etc., OBSERVER Papakura
