PAPAKURA.

See also page 1. The candidates standing in the "Progressive" party's interests for the Town Board election are to take the platform at a public meeting to beheld in Richardson's Hall next Thursday evening. Mr James Murray writes: Your last issue contained a report of the meeting of ratepayers held last Friday for the purpose of selecting candidates for the forthcoming Town Board election. This report is very inaccurate. In the first place the meeting was uot called by or under the auspices of the Ratepayers' Association, as stated by you; second, Mr E. D. McLennan is a ratepayer in the Town Board district and is eligible for nomination; third, it is not tiue that Messrs Campbell and Wallis were the lowest on the nomination list; fourth, I was not one of the selected candidates. I would ask you to be good enough to make these corrections.

A well arranged dance, organized by Messrs Macfarlane, R. Grant and Harold Wilson, in the interests of the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association, took place in the Parish Hall on Wednesday last. Music was provided by Mrs Harold Walters and there was a good attendance. These dances will be continued weekly on Wednesdays, profits being donated to the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Asssociation.

It is common knowledge in Papakura that in returning the Town Board's balance sheet for the year ending March 31st last the AuditorGeneral has " tagged " a payment made to Mr P. Holt, a member of the Board, and has ruled that'isuch disqualifies him from membership although the item concerned, a survey fee due to him prior to his election to the Board. The effect of this " tag," however, will only be that Mr Holt ceases to be a member of the present Board and as the Board's liability to him has now been discharged his nomination for membership of the Board shortly to be elected will be legally in order.
