RED CBOBS BAZAAR.
Tuakau's determination to put up ™a M big figure " for the Red Cross fund was exemplified by the magnificent display of goods on sale at the Tu&kau Hall on Friday and Saturday last. Bright coloured flags stretched across the hall lent a patriotic air to the occasion, the stage also being effectively decorated, the Union Jack encirc'ing the Tu&kau 801 l of Honour reminding one and a!l that, service, pure and uusdfish, was needed to promote the prosperity of the nation and also to assist that good c*t.se the Bed Cro-ts work. There was every variety of goods on sale at the stalls to meet the deminds of the household, whilst the cake and lolly stalls were overladen with tempting eatables, and those who desired to " try their luck" could find every inducement to do so by the enormous number of surprise packets on sale Soon after 2 p.m. on Friday Mrs B. F. Bollard, the wife of the genial M.P. for the Raglan district, officially opened the Bazaar and in doing so congratulated all on their excellent display. She especially commended the claims of the Ked Cross work to the notice of all "who desired to assist our wounded " boys " at the Front Appropriate speeches of welcome were delivered by Messrs E. T. Frost (CLairman of the Tuakau Bed Cross League's Executive) and Dynes Fulton (Chairman of the Tuakau Town Board) each of whom expressed the pleasure at having Mrs Bollard present there that afternoon.
After the opening ceremony and the hearty singing of the National Anthem business was commenced in real earnest and a brisk trade was done. Various attractions and om petitions were provided and dancing was freely entered int<> in the even ing. The function was continued on Saturday and at the close the surplus goods were auctioned. The stall-holders were : -Lolly stall: The Misses Frost and Bridge ; cakes : Mesdames Outred and Behall ; plain and fancy needlework : Mesdames Tregurtha and D. Ful ton; produce : Mr T. Dickens; surprise packet stall : Mesdames Cruickßhank and Osbourne; and Mrs Govan superintended the com petitions. Befreshments were in charge of Mesdames Hunter, Lewis and Leaman and other assistants, whilst Mrs J. C. Quintan superintended the local "GP.0.," the messages transmitted through that office creating a good deal of amuse ment
Mr J. C. Quinlan proved himself an energetic secretary and was supported by a large number of loyal workers
