See al«o page 1. A successful plain and fancy dress ball was held in the Town Hall, Papatoetoe, on Tuesday evening last in the interests ef the Bed Cross fund. Mr McDonald acted as M.C., and Hawthorn's orchestra provided the music.
The Bev. Porter, pastor of the Papatoetoe Presbyterian Church, who recently underwent an operation in the Auckland (Hospital, is, we are glad to learn, progressing towards
recovery. A public meeting in support oi the recommendations of the Efficiency Board for the prohibition of the liquor traffic is to be held in the Methodist Hall; Papatoetoe, next Monday evening. The Queen Carnival contest between Mangere, Papatoetoe, and East Tamaki, in aid of the Bed Cross Fund, closed on Monday, when Mrs Hain, of Mangere proved to be the queen. The united districts raised £5,080, made up as follows:—Mangere 42,018, papatoetoe 41,866, East Tamaki £I2OO, The coronation ceremony will take place at Papatoetoe to-morrow (Saturday) evening.
