Pirret, W. J. Deeblc, and Captain Ryder, with the Clerk (Mr. A. H. Tapper). Mr. W. Access to Property
With reference to a notification from the Board that he had committed a breach of the Board's by-laws by crowing the footpath with his horse, Mr. Jas. Mungall wrote that it was unreasonable to take away the right of approach to any property in the town across a footpath for any horse or even a light vehicle. He suggested that the by-law was framed so that tli- Board might take legal steps if reasonable care was not exercised to project the footpath. In his opinion, lie was taking reasonable precaution to protect the Board's interests, and he asked for the right of entry into his property.
Alter some informal discussion, the Clerk, on the motion of the Chairman, was instructed to reply to Mr. Mungall tli.i the Board saw no reason to depart hoi.i the by-laws, and that the same would have to be observed. Church Entrance. Air. F. P. Laing (Secretary to the Tu.-.kau Presbyterian Church) wrote, staling that it was proposed to remove the gate leading to the churoh proptity from its present position to the frontage in George Street. He asked it :lie Board would be prepared to form and metal a vehicular track ima the centre of the main road across the footpath, and to put in a pip.' culvert. Mr. Laing enquired whether any charge would be made by the Board against the Church. Captain Ryder remarked that the suggested alteration would be a great convenience and an improvement. On bis motion, it was resolved to have the work executed at a cost not exceeding £5.
A Welcome Letter.
The Board having advised the Public Works District Engineer that the filling in front of the Tuakau Post Office and the asphalting of the footpaths had been completed, that official wrote that he had inspected the work, which was satisfactorily carried out. The Chairman remarked that it was not often the Board received such a letter of appreciation, and one member humorously added: "We ought to have that letter framed." Hotel Drainage.
The Chairman reported that he had interviewed Mr. Foley, the proprietor of the Tuakau Hotel, with regard to the unsatisfactory drainage. He had pointed out to him that the improvements would have to be carried out as ordered, and that a septic tank would have to be provided to the satisfaction of the Board's Engineer. The Board endorsed the Chairman's action.
Quarry Explosives
The Clerk reported that the Inspector of Quarries had inspected the quarry belonging to the Board, and had recommended that explosives and detonators used in connection with the quarry should be placed under proper protection. The Chairman arranged to have the necessary safeguards provided.
