Germany's attempt to rule the world is accompanied by all sorts of arrogant and blasphemous claims, a collection of which from extracts from newspapers, sermons, speeches and lectures, have just been published in booklet form under the title of "German Humour" by a Waihi schoolmaster. Thus one German writer produces the following : " Jesus Christ, with his blue eyes, fair hair, and fresh complexion, wes essentially a German type. Hh very name testifies to his Germanic origin. The first syllable " Je," is plainly a corruption of "Ger," the letter "r," as commonly happens, having fallen out or been replaced by "s." The second sylabblo, " us," is merely the Latin termination of a man's name. We get, therefore, Jesus (German) " In the same publication the following words, uttered by the Kaiser, appear " God demands the destruction of our enemies! God, through my mouth, commands you to execute His orders" and again " Remember that you are the chosen people. The spirit of the Lord has descended upon me because 1 am the Emperor of the Germans. I am the instrument of the Most High. I am His Sword, His representative." Referring to the judgment he gave in Auckland on Saturday last in the test action brought by the Pukekohe Borongh Council against Mr R. F. Webster concerning frontage owners' liabilities for kerbing and channelling footpaths the Magistrate (Mr F. K. Hunt) at yesterday's sitting of the Pukekohe Court stated that it had appeared in the papers that he had said that if there had been a wooden kerbing his decision would have been different. His words, however, should have read that " if there had been a wooden kerbing such would have been another ingredient and would have required to have been taken into consideration." Mr J. G. Haddow (acting for Mr Webster) renewed his notice of appeal against the judgment and on his application His Worship fixed £l2 as the amount of fee for security for the appeal. The sitting of the Magistrate's Court yesterday at Pukekohe was only of a brief character. The civil business comprised the entry of judgment by default in each of four claims. There was but one police prosecution and this was that at the instance of the Defence Department a young man, named Stanley Epingstal, who had until recently been working at Tuakau, was summoned for having failed to register as a Territorial. The defendant wda a month or so ago convicted and fined £2 and costs for having failed to attend drill a3 required by the Defence Act and as the same circumstances affected yesterday's proceedings the Magistrate (Mr F. K. Hunt S.M.), entered a nominal conviction with costs Hs 6d, the Court being temporarily adjourned whilst the defendant duly attested.

A billiard tournament (100 up) promoted by Mr G. Armstrong in the interests of the Pukekohe Red Cross fund took place yesterday in his saloon, nearly 100 players being engaged. The winner was Mr E. Crum (rec 45) who in the final tie defeated Mr S. J. Clews (rec. 20) 100—81. Third prize was secured by Mr J. Roulston. The tournament receipts amounted to £ll lis. The money for the prize trophies was donated by Messrs A. B Barter, A. P. Daysh and W. T. Jones. The financial difficulties that confronted the provision of a site for the Technical High School proposed to be established in Pukekohe seem in a fair way of being overcome, the Borough Council having evolved a scheme, which, backed up with endorsement by the Franklin County Council as signified at yesterday's meeting of that authority, is to be submitted for approval to the ratepayers of the borough of Pukekohe by way of a loan poll fixed to be taken on Wednesday, September 4th. The project is that in order that a suitable site for the school should be purchased, the Minister for Education (the Hon. J. A. Hanan M.P.) 1 aving on the occasion of his recent visit to Pukekohe intimated that if land was donated locally he would bo prepared to recommend Cabinet to set up the school, the Borough Council should raise a loan of £2500, the County Council assuming liability for half share of interest and sinking fund payable during the currency of the loan. The Ma\or (Mr H. G. R Mason), Crs D. R Hamilton and J. Patterson, and Mr Frank Perkins (chairman of the Pukekohe School Committee) waited on the Franklin County Council yesterday and sought the Council's cooperation in the scheme. It was pointed out by the deputation that the possession of a school of the tpye intendod was of just as much concern to the County as to the Borough, especially as two-thirds of the pupils now attending the secondary education classes at Pukekohe came from the County. The County Chairman (Or W. C. Motion) thoroughly approve I of the proposal, remarking that the Council's share of liability would only be ab >ut £7"> per annum. Distributed over the whole of the nine ridings of the County, the yearly payments by each would bo insignificant compared with the advantages gained. Or Short remarked that his (Awhitu) riding would be the Jurist concern' d in the Scho >l, but as the contributions would ho so small ho was prepared to accept liability on behalf of his riding. Or R T Reid =ip(ikrt in a similar sense, whilst Crs. Mtmtgomeiie, Wilcox and Thomas all supported the Chuinnan's remarks. Or Woods explained tha f whim the matter was previously under consideration a County loan was mooted and lie had given a pledge to some of hi-- ratepayers hit their views would hi secured in that way. Under such circumstances h- wis unable to act independently that day. On the proposition of Cr. Motion," seconded by Cr. Montgomerie, it was agiced netn con to co-op-erate with the Borough Council on the lines as already indicated. Subsequently Crs Motion and Moutgomorie, empowered with the Borough Council's authority met the Borough Council's delegates "in committee" ami i.
