We held a special sale of dairy stock in the Pukekohe yards on Saturday, and had an extra large entry. There was a large attendance but the demand wa3 not so strong as at last month's sale, and inconsequence values eased. Best cows made from £ls 10s to £2O 10s, second-grade cows £ll to £l4, others £5 10s to £lO, best heifers £l3 to £ls 10s, smaller heifers £9 10s to £l2, small £5 10s to £B. The pedigree Jerseys on account of Mr T. D Reid, Reid Park, Glonbrook, elected keen competition, selling at from 1 Jgus to. 45gns.
On Monday wo held our monthly sale at Pukekohe, and had a full yarding for this time of year Dairy cattle sold at Saturday's values. Store stock and beef were in slightly better demand. Three to four-year old steers made from £ll to £l3, 2 to 3-year old £7 15s to £lO sa, yearlings, mixed sexes, £5 10s to £6 18s, empty cows £5 15s to £8 15s, best calves £3 12s to £4 10s, good calves £3 to £3 10s, smaller calves £2 to £2 15s, small and weedy 10to £1 15s, fat steers £l4 to £lB ss, fat cows and heifers £0 to £l3 10s.
On Wednesday at our weekly Westtiold fat stock market our yarding of beef numbered 371 head, comprising 291 steers, 77 cows and heifers. There was a .strong demand throughout, with a further advance in choice and prime ox beef. Cow and ordinary steer beef unchanged Choice ox sold to £2 13s per lOOlbs, prime ox beef £2 lO« to £2 12s per 1 OOlh, ordinary and rough beef £1 ISs to £2 lis per 1001b, cow and heifer beef £2 Is to £2 10s per 1001b. Steers ranged in price from £l2 Ids to £2l 15s, cows and heifers £S to £ 11!. '1 hero was a heavy yarding of sheep, the quality and finish being a decided improvement on recent markets. Competition was steady, and with the- exception of unfinished ewes, which were slightly easier, values remained firm at late quotations. Fat and young calves came forward in l'.rgo numbers, and sold freely at --lightly under late high prices. Runners made from £0 10s to £lO 15s for a nice conditioned 15month heifer, heavy voalors £4 5s to L'G, medium £3 5s to £4, light £1 Iss to L' 3, small and fresh dropped ■'is to.ll Ids 120 sold. Pigs were penned in average numbers and all clases maintained late extreme v.iluos. Large choppers and heavy baconors sold from £7 to £0 10s, small baconors and light choppers £5 to£'i 15s, large porkers £3 15s to £-1 15s, medium £2 15s to £3 10s, small £2 to £2 12s od, slips £1 8s to £1 l«s, woaners 10s to £1 ss, suckers 12s to 15s. 212 sold.
