PAPAKURA.

Mr. P. Holt, of Papakura, has donated £1 to the local School Garden Fund to provide hedge plants for the front of the school grounds. As this donation carries a subsidy of £2. it will provide for a good supply of well-rooted plants. Mrs. G. Wilson has also given a variety of climbing roses, which are to be planted to form a pergola from the front gate to the main entrance. In addition to these contributions, Mr. Holt is also offering prizes to the value of £2 for competition amongst the senior boys engaged in cultivating school garden plots. It is hoped that other interested persons will make donations to the Garden Fund in order to improve the school surroundings.

McLennan was attending to his sheep in a paddock on his farm, and lightning struck the fence, causing a fusion of the wire, which split the posts and considerably damaged the line of fencing for some distance. Beyond this no other damage is reported.

Mr. J. E. Elliott, headmaster of the Papakura public school, who has been absent from school owing to indisposition. has resumed his usual duty. His little son. Norman, aged three years, who recently underwent an operation for appendicitis, is progressing favourable
