Territorial Camps, The Malamata County Council endorsement of their resolution in favour oi the suspension of Territorial eamps during the war.
Members did not think that any hardship was involved, seeing that trainees had now the choice of the time for 'join? info camp and that exemption could lie obtained in eases of necessity.
A Complaint. Complaint was made by Mr. John York and 10 other ratepayers of the Onewhcro and Pukekawa Ridings in a petition to the Council of the deplorable state of the Kauri Road opposite Mr. .T. A. Liddle's section. They requested thai the trade of the hill ,*hould be eased, as the road in its present -tafe was impa=sable.

Walter for a now road. Mr. Walter waited on the Council and contended that fhe proposed deviation would not be of much public benefit, whilst the destruction of his hedges and shelter tries of twenty years' growth would seriously affect the value of his property. Mr. Walter complained- that lie had been persecuted by the action of Cr. Crawford, who had urged that, this deviation should be made. He (Mr. Walter) considered that the road could have been altered with advantage hr it passing through Mr. Dawes' property. Mr. Walter offered to accept C 1 On as compensation in respect, of severance <rf land taken for such deviation, Cr. Crawford explained (hat. flu l proposed deviation had been before a former Council, but was not entertained at the time. He urged that the deviation would lie in every way an improvement to (he district. There were no "rounds, he said, for Mr. Walter's assertion that be had been
" persecuted." and lie fell sure all progressive men in the district would gladly welcome the pioposal. The Engineer subiniffed a plan showini: the proposed nuw road, which was also explained bv Cr. Crawford to the Council. Eventually it was tacitly aereed fo let the proposal drop. County Election*.

The matter of Hamilton's deviation. Onewhero. was left in the hands of the Chairman and "Engineer to endeavour to effect an arrangement without resort to the Public Works Act, fhe Clerk reporting that lie bad made ,-i survey .>f fhe proposed deviation, some sfi chains in length.
Engineer's Report. The Engineer (Mr. T. W. Civil) reported as follows: Port Waiknfo Ridinc.
Port, Waikato to Tuakau lrid«re Grant and Loan.—Four bridge culverts have been erected, and earthworks carried out. About "fin pipes have been landed at Wallis' wharf ready for works next apring.
