A large gathering of friends and workers assembled in the Alfriston Hall on Monday nteht, June 24th. to inaugurate the opening of the Carnival. The chairman of the local Executive, introducing the Queen-i-h-ct (Miss Mary Fitzpalriok). asked for the hearty and continuous support of one and all present. He complimented the Queen on her choice of colours (Belgium), viz., black, yellow and rod-embkms of solf-saoriflea. steadfastness, continuity of purpose. The .vening was spent in dancing, curds, etc., a varied musical programme being provided. A unique it.ni was presented by the scholars of the Rrookhv Sehool. under Mr. Bromley, viz.. a Red Cross Tableau, a di.-play of Eirst Aid Ambulance w-.rk also being tnvon. The gathering was encouraging to the promoters. and was very successful Red Cross afternoons have been frequent of late, the last two having been very successfully undertaken by Mrs. H.
