TUAKAU
Under the auspices of the Tuakau Women's Patriotic League a successful dance and skating function was held on Wednesday evening last when there was a good attendance. MrF. Ryder acted as M.C, the music was supplied by Miss Geraghty, extras being played by Miss Lewis. Altogether the event was a thoroughly enjoyable one and the proceeds are to be devoted to the Red Cross Carnival funds The newly laid tar paving from the railway station to the post office and other portions of the township is a decided improvement, but unfortunately the recent heavy rains have interfered with the progress of the work. With the removal of so many Maoris from Tuakau to Meroer where they have taken up their abode, there has been a falling off of trade at the various Tuakau shops which were generally so well patronised by the dusky tribe. It is to be hoped that with the advent of better weather and the incoming of the cows that business will improve Two subjects are much talked of just now, the Red Cross Carnival and the manufacture of dried milk powder, whilst the question of the amalgamation of the dairy companies in South Auckland Province is also much debated in the streets.
