MANUREWA
(See alao page 1.) Particulars as to the rate for the current financial year proposed to be struck by the Manurewa Town Board will be found in our advertising columns. Despite the boisterous weather which prevailed on Monday evening lust, the attendance at the plain and fancy dress ball held in the Public Hall in connection with the Manurewa Bed Cross Carnival was attended by upwards of 150 people. Among others present were Mr and Mrs 0. Coxhead, Mrs Muir, Mr 0. Smith aud Mr and Mrs T. J. Corin. The Carnival Queen (Miss A. Coxhead), charmingly attired in a light blue evening dress, wore a crown befitting the occasion, while a large number of ladies donned fancy dress costumes The assembling of the couples in the varied coloured costumes produced a pretty effect whilst the number of juveniles, who were busily engaged throughout the evening disposing of buitons, badges and buttonholes, gave an additional brightness to the animated scene. During the evening Mr I. J. Coiin, h 8 Chairman of the Carnival Committee, tpobe a few words of welcome to Vnvate Charles Butterworth, a Manurewa boy who has recently returned home tfter having been at Gallipoli aud in France. The floor was ia fi.st-r-te condition and the dancing was thoroughly enj yed. Musk; wss supplied by Mrs Canhan (pitno) and Mr Haw thorn (violin) and the duties of M.t). were creditably discharged by Mr Stan Thompson.
