OTAHUHU MAGISTRATE'S COURT. (Before Mr J. E. Wilson, S.M.) MONDAY, JUNE 17th. LICENBINO PROSECUTIONS. Frederick Henry Cleary, of Panmure, labourer, was fined £1 and 12s costs for being found on licenced premises at Otahuhu at 10.30 p.m. on May 25th, For a similar offence on the same date at 8.25 pm , Alfred Douglan, labourer, of Otahuhu, was fined a like amount. CHARGE OF ASSAULT. Stephen Carter, labouier, of Otahuhu, was charged with having assaulted William Jones on the 25th May by striking him in the month with a stirrup iron. Bergeant Harvey stated that an altercation took place between accused and complainant in an hotel yard and the defendant, who was under the influence of dnnk, then struck complainant. Defendant said he did not remember anything about the assault. The Magistrate convicted accused and fined him the full penalty of £ 10, one half of which would be awarded to Jones as compensation for the injury received. Defendant was ordered to pay £5 within a month and the balance within 12 months RESIDENT PROHIBITED. Application for a Prohibition Order was made by the police against a local resident, who objected to an order being issued. After evi dence had been given, the Magiatrate stated that he was of opinion that prohibition would be the best thing for the man and he accordingly made an Order to operate in the Auckland, Paine!!, Manukau and Franklin districts. BTRAYIXG HORSES. For allowing horses to stray at | Panmure E. J. Drumin was fined 5s and lis costs. BOROUGH COUNCIL FINANCE
At last Thursday's mee'ing of thu Otahuhu Borough Council the Town Clerk reported that the receipts for the month of May wete a; follows : General Account £29 16-; Cemetery Account £3 as ; Park Account £2 10s ; and that ihe balances at the end of the mouth wcr« as follows : District Fund Account (debit) £3429 9s 5d ; Cemetery Account (credit) £76 lis 111 ; Park Account (credit) £IBB 4s 6d ; Doonain Account (credit) £26 lis lid
The total receipts as from April Ist were shown as having amounted to £343 14s 6d and expenditure £613 8s lOd which with a debit balance brought forward on April Ist of £3159 15s left a debit balance at present of £3429 9s 4d. Accounts amounting to £315 16s 10d were passed for payment.
Besideuts of Otahuhu and the district are invited by the mayor (Mr A. McDonald) to attend a public mee'ing to be held in the Public Hall, Otahuhu, on Thursday next at 8 p.m. for the purpose of electing a Committee in conmcion with the Red Cross Campaign. Nominations will also be received for the Carnival Queen.
The Mayor (Mr A. McDonald) at last Thursday's meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council made reference to the death of the late Mr Albert Boss, who had been closely identified with all movements throughout the (.istrict, not only municipally but in connection with all patriotic work. His loss would be keenly felt as he was known to everyone as a genial man Cr Brady, who had been aesociated with Mr Boss since he was cleik of Works under the late Otahuhu Road Board, said he was always a good citizen ready to assist in all movements for the public good. Both Cra Hall and Todd also added their testimony of thr great respect iu which Mr Ross was held. Cr Wildman characterized Mr Ross as "a friend indeed" who was always willing to assist in any good <<tUße, whilst Cr Stringer said all would feel his loss as he was a good woiker in ao many causes. Tin motion was carried in silence, the members standing. At a special meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council held previous to the ordinary li nking of the Council last Thursday the balance sheet -for the year ending the 31st Match last, as certified by the auditor, was pusected find signed by the M ujor uc coriccf.
