ALFRISTON
BED CROSS JETE
- Alfriston Public rfali presented an Mbimated appearance last Saturday on the occasion of a Ked Cross fete and aale of work. Prettily decorated, the heavily laden stalls containing tempting goods for aale ahowed that Alfriston folk had gone to a good deal of trouble to make the function a success in the interests of the Bed Cross fund.
In addition to the excellent display of farm produce and flowers there was a first-class exhibition of coukery, while the entries of plain and fancy sewing were much above the usual standard. The judging was carried out by Mrs Gardiner (flower and needlework sections) and Mrs A. Muir (cookery], and their decisions gave every satisfaction. As secretaries for the undertaking the Misses M. Fitzpatriek and E. Embling worked most untiringly. The aide show, " the Palace of Art," organised and controlled by Mrs H. Chandler, was a novelty and its " museum " contents caused much amusement to those who viewed them.
In the handwork section special mention deserves to be made of the winning exhibit for the most useful article made out of material to cost not more than one shilling, honours going to a revolving book-case conatructed by Mrs Plant from a kerosene case.
