(See also page 4.) The opening social and dance in connection with St. Andrew's Social Club took place in the Masonic Hall on Saturday evening last, Mr W. Gardiner presiding After the sing* ing of the National Anthem a wellarranged programme of vocal and instrumental music was presented and during the interval refreshments were served Dancing was freely indulged in, the music being supplied by Mrs C. Fraser, extra* being supplied by the Misses Nicholson, McArthur and E. Moffitt. Messrs B. Mvers, J. Gardiner and R G. Moffitt creditably carried out the duties of M.'sC The Misses E. Moffitt, Nicholson and M. Moffitt contributed songs and Miss McArthur gave a humorous recitation. There was a good attendance which included among others the Mayor, Mr A. McDonald, an 1 Cr Moffitt. fhe next social will be held on Saturday, 25th May. At a special meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council held last evening the members present were the Mayor (Mr A. McDonald), Crs J. Brady, H J. Hall, H. J. Moffitt, B. Todd, H. V. Bfringer and F. R. Field, with the Town Clerk (Mr W. J Dinnison). The meeting had been called to con-ider the road works proposed > y the Works Committee. These were after some discussion adopted and will he submitted to the C»unc.il with other estimates at the meeting on Thurs* \ day next. The final tie of the patriotic billiard competition recently in progrets at Chamberlain's Billiard Saloon was played last night' The two contestants were a personage under the name of " Captain " and Mr J. McSweeuey, After a firstclass' game "Captain" was the winner. The Mayor (Mr A. McDonald) who was amongst the spectators, complimented both players on their excellent pUy and presented " Captain " with the prize, viz , a cue and case donated by Messrs Alcock and Co., the sec >nd p -i/.e being a trophy which His Worship handed to Mr McSweeney. As the result of the tournament the Patriotic ' Committee will benefit by the sum of £l7 10s. Mr Chamberlain was thanked for the use of his saloon f r the purpose of the games. Prior to the " final " an interesting exhibition, 200 up, was given between Messrs Chamberlain and the final scores being Chamberltin 200 and Vulgar 184 The quarterly meeting of the Otahuhn Women's Patrotic League was held in the Parish Hall yesterday, the president (Mrs A McDonald) being in the ch air. There was n good attendance, several new mem bera handing in their names. The f Tcjports of the various Committees were very satisfactory. [t was re ported that a liberal response had been made as a result of the appeal in the " Times " last week for winter comforts for New Zealand soldiers in Mesopotamia. Votes of sympathy were passed with several members who had suffered bereavement-
