LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The usual monthly meeting of the Manukau County Council is to be held on Tuesday next. Particulars of entries for Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons' usual monthly stock sale to be held at Tuakau next Thursday will be found in our advertising columns. A. notice detailing the rates to be struck for the current year by the Waikato River Board at their next meeting is advertised in this issue. ,A reminder is given of the performance of the comedy '* Jane " to take place in the Premier Hall, Pukekohe, next Tuesday evening in aid of the funds of the Pukekohe branch of the Women's Patriotic League. Seats may# be reserved at the Bookery. Tenders are invited by the NZ. Dairy Association, per advt. in this issue, for the purchase of butter-milk next season from the Pukekohe factory. According to present arrangements the Minister of Lands (the Hon. D. H. Guthrie) will carry out his promised visit to Mercer for the purpose of an inspection of the Waikato River about the end of this month. The Bev W. J. Comrie, of Wellington, who is on a visit to his old home at Pukekohe East, will preach in the Pukekohe East church at 11 a.m and at St. James, Pukekohe, at 7 p.m on Sunday next.
* A match between teams represent ative of Town v. Farmers was played on the Pukekohe bowling green last Baturday, the townsmen winning by three points. Subsequently the teams sat down to dinner at the ' Pukekohe Hotel, the losers acting as hosts. A return game is to be played to-morrow.
In the report in our last issue relative to the farewell presentation made at Otahuhu to Mr D. Clarkson by his fellow-employees at Mr John Hall's establishment it was stated in error that Mr Clarkson was leaving Otahuhu to join Mr W. Roulston's staff at Pukekohe whereas it is Messrs Frank Perkins and Co's staff of which Mr Clarkson has become a member.
As from Monday next the 2 80 p.m. train from Frankton to Auckland is scheduled after leaving Papakura to only call at Otahuhu, Pen- • rose and Newmarket with the provision, however, that it will stop at intermediate stations to set down passengers from south of Papakura. The usual 7.40 p.m Saturday train from Papakura to Auckland will also not run whilst the 3.15 pm. train from Pukekohe to Mercer will be suspended on Saturdays but will run on other days.
