New Justices of the Peace appointed include Messrs John C. Bryant (Papatoetoe), David W. Jones (Papakura) and John Wylie (Papatoetoej. Particulars of the yarding for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company's usual monthly stock sale, combined with a " turnip sale," to be held at Pukekohe next Tuesday are advertised in this issue. Heerdegen's Fruit Store advt. in this issue will be specially interesting to lovers of apples. Only the best class of apple is stocked by Mr Heerdegen at his establishment in Pukekohe and residents of the district can with eonfidence purchase from him.
Be sure to meet Jane on Tuesday 14th May, at Premier Hall. The Pukekohe High School boys are doing well in the football field. Playing against the Pukekohe Cadets on the Bchool ground on Saturday, April 27th they won by three goals to nil and again on Saturday last they secured a similar victory over the Patumahoe Cadets. A contingent of returned soldiers due to arrive shortly in New Zealand includes B. Gillard (East Tamaki), D. Gulland (Pokeno), W. C. Kitson (Kama Kama), Wilfred M. Leighton (Buckland). John McCullough (Papatoetoe), H. P. Martin (Otahuhu), C. Sampson (Waerenga), W. W.Topham" (Marigere) and Vivian A. Wright (Mauku).
Picture patrons are finally reminded that the screening of " The Circus of Death," the famous sensational production by the Cines Company, takes place at the Premier Hall, Pukekohe, *to-morrow (Wednesday) evening. The Cines Company are the producers of " Quo Vadis."
Tickets are selling well for the comedy " Jane " to be staged at the Premier Hall, Pukekohe, next Tuesday evening by the Pukekohe Dramatic Club. The " artistes " are being carefully rehearsed in their parts and as the entertainment is being given in aid of the funds of the Pukekohe branch of the Women's Patriotic League a crowded house is likely to be secured.
A number of lady friends met at the Carnival Tea Rooms, Pukekohe, on Thursday afternoon last for the purpose of bidding farewell to Miss Galloway prior to her departure for a few months' holiday. Afternoon teajvas provided. Miss Galloway has been a valued member of the Pukekohe Women's Patriotic League and also a teacher in Bt. James' Presbyterian Sunday School. All present wished her a pleasant holiday and trusted she would return to Pukekohe and take up her good work again.

At a meeting of the Executive of the Franklin A. and P. Society held on Friday evening last there were present Messrs J. N. Massey (Chairman), J. Wylie, W. Johns, W. Moore, A. P. Daysh, J. W. D. Sharp, F. Ballard, A. B. Barter, J. Roulston and D. K. Hamilton. As the result of the inspection of the show-ground it was decided to plant shelter thereon and a subcommittee consisting of Messrs J. Roulston, A. B. Barter, F. Ballard, J. Wylie and A. P. Daysh were appointed with power to act. A letter was received from the Anckland Racing Club stating that the Club had pleasure in donating the sum of £lO to the funds of the Society in lieu of the special prize for the best thoroughbred entire for which there was no competition. The decision of the Club was much appreciated and the Secretary was asked to write thanking the Club for their donation. Among those who have recently been reported as wounded is SecondLieutenant James N. Baxter, M M., son of Mr and Mrs J. M. BdXiQr, of Pukekohe. His parents have been advised that he has received wounds in his back, neck and jaw and is now in hospital in England. He departed with the Bth .Reinforcements as a Gunner in the New Zealand Field Artillery. After the battle of the Somme he wa3 promoted to the rank of Bombadier and for gallantry at Messines he was awarded the Military Medal, being twice subsequently mentioned in despatches by Sir Doulas Haig. On the recommendation of the military authorities he later on went to England to study fir a commission and lie returned to the front last March as a Second-Lieutenant. Whilst at the Cadet School in London he was awarded a silver trophy for the highest marks obtained at the examination, the highest possible bemg 7:?0, Lieutenant Haxter securing 700 in competition with SO candidates. His brother, Lieutenant Wm. John Baxter, who also lqft New Zealand as a Gunner, returned wounded in January of last year. Messrs Civil and Boberts, of Pukekohe, report the following sales through their agency, viz: Mrs C. J. Harper's farm of 66 acres, at Pake* kohe; Mr A Dickens' house and section, at Pukekohe; Mr B. 0. Hamming's house and section, at Pukekohe; Mr A. E. Moms' bouse and 5* acres, at Pukekohe. The advantages of "The Farmers' Milking Machine" are set forth in an advt. in this issue. A "2-cow plant, complete with engine, costs £IOO and wherever installed the apparatus has given entire satisfaction. Particulars will be supplied by the Farmers' Milking Machine Co., Ltd., G P.O. The prevalence of ducks in .the Mercer and Bangiriri districts as reported prior to the opening of the shooting season and the comparatively poor bags secured since are alleged to be due to the birds having been scared by poachers with the result that they have disappearedinto the back country. There appears to have been no attempt this year to detect offenders that were illicitly shooting before May Ist
