OTAHUHU BOROUGH COUNCIL. At the adjourned fortnightly meeting of the Otahnhu Borough Council held on Tuesday evening last there were present: The Mayor (Mr A. McDonald), Crs H. J. Hall, J Brady, H. J. Moffitt, R Todd, A. J. Wildman, H V. Btringer and P. R. Field with the Town Clerk (Mr W.' J. Dinnison). KRX PLUGS. The Honorary Secretary (Mr P. F, Sing) of the Otahuhu Fire Brigade wrote drawing attention to the unsatisfactory state of the fire plugs in the district which he stated in some cases were overgrown with grass. It was decided to obtain a report from the Turncock as to the Brigade's requirements. BUILDING DEMOLISHED. In accordance with the request made by the Council to the Health Department that the building owned by Mrs Plumley at the corner of Church and Lake Streets should be inspected and reported on Inspector Fogarty notified the Council that the

building in question had now beei demolished and the material disposed of. SANITARY MATTERS. Inspector Fogerty also reported that he had inspected the fowl-run owned by Mrs Harrison, of Railway Street, and found that whilst no actual nuisance existed the fowl house and run did not comply with the by-laws. He recommended that a concrete floor should be laid in the fowl-house and that the foal-run should be placed 15 feet away from any building.—On the motion of the Mayor it was resolved that Mrs

Harrison should be asked to compl» with the Inspector's recommandatinu.—An amendment proposed by Cr Field that the matter should be deferred pending a revision of the by-laws was not seconded and there fore lapsed. Dr. H. G. H. Monk, .District Health Officer, in a letter to the Council reported that complaints had been received about the stench,, from the septic tank, As a result of aa inspection it was reported by the Inspector that there was a leakage at the junction of the earthenware pipe and wooden fluming and that as a result the leakage polluted the whole of the ground. He recommended that the junction of the earthenware pipes should be repaired and that the earthenware channel at tin end of the fluming should be continued out of running water. He asked that these works should be carried out at once.—The matter of the leakage was referred to the Water and Drainage Committee with power to act.

BATHIHQ SHED PROVISION. The Works Committee recomcomended with regard to the removal and re-erection of the Rowing Club's shed purchased by the Council: That 30 feet of the shed be removed to the Council's yard for general purposes and that two 10 feet lengths be used for bathing sheds at Avenue Road Beach, one for ladies and one for men, these bathing sheds to be erected at the end of the roadway.

The recommendation was adopted and on the motion of Cr Wildman seconded by Cr Field it was decided that the erection of all the sheds be undertaken by the Council's employees under the supervision of the Works Committee.

Cr Todd proposed as an amendment that the shed should be removed and the whole of it re erected in the Council's yard, but this found no seconder. BOAB WORKS. The Works Committee submitted the following report of work-done as presented by the Foreman of Works (Mr G. W. Kemplay) viz. : -The stmn water drain in Albion Lace in front of Mr Crow's property had btjen deepened to proper levels and 9-inch pipes laid in place of old acoria boulders; the extension to storm water drain at junction of Water Street and Avenue Road had been completed as per instructions; materials as ordered had been delivered to Mr Weal, Mangere Road; the remnants of the two bathing sheds at Avenue Road and Water Street destroyed in the recent rtorm were picked up on the beach and carted to the yard ; the repairs to following streets were considered as urgent and attention had been paid to same, viz., Albert Street, Luke Street, Portage Road, Hutton Btreet. gully between High Street and Fairburn Road, part of Fairburn Road, High Street and Avenue Road, on Mr Williamson's Hill The watertables in Main Street from Avenue Road to Mean's property had bean repaired with tar macadam and covered with tar and shinglo to n width of 3ft 6m, the old filling being dug out, metal screened and laid back and clay and refuse ratted away, new metal being uspd for filling where required ; and the crossing at Mr Hall's property in the Main Street had been completed as per instructions. The Foreman also recommends) that two loads of scoria and th«w 6-inch pipes be supplied to form approach to Mr Harubliu's property in Fairburn Road. That property was almost unapproachable on w*t days as a lot of water from the roa 1way was diverted on to it. The report was adopted.

UI'ILMNG BY LAWS In regard to an application received from Dr. P. H McDonald for a permit to erect a brick resirfenc • on a section at the corner of Queen Street and Great South Road, thp Public Services Committee recommended that a permit should be granted in accordance with the plans and specificarions submitted. Dr McDonald atrended and pro duced the plan and specifications of proposed building. In the discussion that followed

there was some difference of opinion with regard to the interpretation of certain terms used in the by-laws and it was thought legal advice might be necessary. Ultimately it was resolved, on the motion of Cr Stringer, that the permit should te granted subject to the building being set back two feet from the boundary line of Railway Street as originally shown on the plan Bubmitt-.nl hy Dr McDonald. COil PLAINTS AND BEQUESTS. Mr R. Dalziell, of Seddon Terrace, again wrote drawing attention to the practice of unloading manure at the Otahuhu Railway Station which he stated was a menace to the health of the residents of the district.—The matter was referred to the Public Services Committee.'

An application was made by Mr R, Holland for the watertable at the entrance to his property in Huia Road to be repaired.—Referred to Works Committee with power to act.

Mr David Bmith, of High Street, Otahuhu, had the misfortune to lose a valuable draught horse on Sunday evening last, the animal having fallen down a disused well in a paddock. When found it was dead At the annual meeting of St. Andrew's Social Club, Otahnhu, held on Saturday evening last the following were elected as the Committee, viz, Messrs R. G. Moffitt, J. Gardiner snr, J. Gardiner jnr., P. Nodwell, and the Misses P. Crombie, and E. McDonald and Mr E. O'Hara

In a replace advt. in this issue Mr John Hall calls attention to the specialities obtainable at his stores at Otahuhu. He is sole agent for the popular " Sidar" Teas (late "Rajah") and for " Hinton's " home-made jams, and in all departments Mr Hall's goods can be depended upon to give satisfaction. A meeting of the Magistrate's Court at Otahuhu is due to take place on Monday next but as only a few minor cases are down for hearing the attendance of the Stipendary will be unnecessary and the " business " will be transacted by J.P's.
