Subscriptions to " the Times " for the current quarter, if paid before April 30, will be charged 3/3 (delivered) or 4/3 (posted). After April 30th the usual additional booking fee of 6d in each case will be charged.

On the 21st instant the New Zealand Dairy Association, Limited, distributed amongst its suppliers the sum of £82,271 18s sd. This covered 1,071,6751bs of butterfat supplied during the month of March. Mr John Beatty, on behalf of Messrs W, and R. Fletcher, Ltd., will be purchasing pigs at Puke* kohe next Monday, at Runciman on Tuesday, and at Tuakau and Pukekawa on Wednesday. The Fisk Jubilee Singers are, after an absence of several years, paying a return visit to New Zealand. They are to appear in the I Premier Hall, Pukekohe, on Thursday, June 6 th.

Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons are to hold a clearance sale on Thursday next on the farm at Mauku on behalf of Mr John Drinnan, who is retiring from farming. For particulars see advt. In pursuance of a crusade towards remedying sanitary defects on farms another farmer is to be charged at the Pukekohe Magistrate's Court next Thursday with allowing his pigsty to become a nuisance. The N Z Farmers' Co-op. Bacon and Meat Packing Co., Ltd., will be buying pigs next week as follow : At Onewnero and Pukekawa on Monday, at Tuakau on Tuesday, at Pokeno on Wednesday, at Te Kauwhata on Thursday, and at Patumahoe on Saturday. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., are to hold their usual monthly stock sale at Tuakau next Friday. The entry so far includes 400 head of cattle and 1000 sheep. Further entries are invited. Street decorations in honour of Anzac Day might reasonably have been expected in Pukekohe yesterday but in addition to the Dominion flag flying over the post-office the only premises in King Street adorned with bunting were the Bookery and the auction mart. The proprietors of all the business establishments, however, responded to the Mayor's invitation to observe the afternooa as a special half-holiday. A reminder is given of the entertainment to be held under the joint auspices of the Pukekohe and Buckland branches of the Women's Patriotic League in the Premier Hall, Pukekohe, next Tuesday evening when the play "Cinderella" will be staged by the Buckland school children. Musical items will form an addition to the programme. A test case has been arranged in the matter of the objectors who refuse to comply with the Pukekohe Borough Council's demands to pay half-share of the cost of kerbing and channelling roads fronting their properties. Mr R. F. Webster ,as leader of the opposition, has been selected as the person to be proceeded against in the Magistrate's Court but the action, although down for hearing next Thursday, will probably be postponed until a fortnight later to suit the convenience of counsel.

As previously announced, a memorial service to the late Pte. W. S. Band, who was recently killed in action, is to be held next Sunday morning in St. Andrew's Church, Pukekohe. The service is to be attended by the deceased soldier's fellow members of the Loyal Pukekohe Lodge of Oddfellows.

With the object of assisting patriotic and other organisations in Pukekohe and the district an orchestral society to be known as the "Pukekohe Orchestral Society" has | recently been formed with about 12 efficient players and its appearance at the recent Patriotic Exhibition held at the Premier Hall was the occasion nf much favourable comment. Mr J. Hindman is the conductor and Mrs G. H. Armstrong the honorary Secretary. It is confidently anticipated that the public will support the Society in every way. Meetings for practice are held weekly.

A Pokeno correspondent writes, I relative to the annual meeting of householders, asking for information as to the accuracy of a ruling given by Mr C. J. Leathern, who presided over the Pokeno meeting, in which he disqualified four Maoris from voting. The Maoris, it appeared, all resided in one house, and one of their number had a child attending the school.—We believe that Maoris are entitled to vote at a meeting of householders in the same way as pakehas provided they occupy a proper tenement house (not a shed or tent). Of fc ur families living together in one house, only the man who pays the rent and his wife would, however, be entitled to vote but in addition a vote should have been allowed to the father of the child that was attending the school.

The next meeting of the Franklin County Council is to be held on Thursday, May 9th, instead of Thursday next as previously arranged. An Anzac Day collection taken up in the Pukekohe Hotel yesterday by two returned soldiers, Messrs Payne and Boyle, realised £3, which sum has been handed over to Mrs Baxter for the benefit of the Pukekohe branch of the Women's Patriotic League.

A Dominion Gift afternoon has been arranged by the Pukekohe Bowling Club to be held on the Bowling Green tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon, to which ladies are specially invited. Croquet and bowling will be in progress and afternoon tea will be served.

Picture patrons are advised to watch for next Wednesday's star feature at the Premier Hall, Pukekohe, of " Madcap Madge," with Olive Thomas in the leading role. Miss Thomas is the prize beauty of the New Tork Follies and is known the world over as " The Harrison Fisher Girl."

Members of the Pukekohe Bowling Club are requested to attend a special general meeting of the Club to be held next Monday at 8 p m in the Borough Council Chambers relative to a proposed change of rules affecting the election of officers at the annual meeting. The meeting will also be called on to appoint the winter games' committee. Telephone insulators as a target for boyish escapades will form the subject of a prosecution at the Pukekohe Magistrate's Court next Thursday, when some youthful residents of Patumahoe will be charged with wilful damage. The case has been brought as a warning to other similar offenders, whose thoughtless acts are frequently responsible for " holding up " means of communication. At the Pukekohe Magistrate's Court this morning a Maori named Paul Hill, alias Tokikura, alias Houhia, living at Puni, was charged with the theft of a bridle and two overcoats, the property <bf Mr Ernest Pollock, and of a bridle, the property of Mr Leonard Bilkey. The articles, it appeared, had been stolen from a shed in Pukekohe adjoining Mr J. W. Rack's blacksmith's shop. A sentence of three months imprisonment Was imposed.
