PAPAKURA

Unusual interest was shown in the householders' meeting held at the Papakura Public Bchool on Monday evening last when over eighty persons were present, constituting a record attendance. The Committee's report and balance-sheet were and adopted and resolutions from the Headmasters' Association and the School Committees' Association were discussed. Twenty-three persons, including all the old members, were nominated for membership of the Committee and the result of the voting was as recorded in our last issue. Six of the retiring members of the committee were defeated. Among those elected were Messrs Craies and Turner, who represent the railwaymen's interest. A service in commemoration of Anzac Day, and also in memory of Pts Carpenter, McConaughey, James, Moir and Derbyshire, who were recentlv killed in action, was held in Chnst Church, Papakura, yesterday at 1.15 P m « crowded congregation including members of the Town Board and the relatives of soldiers who had fallen. The altar was draped in mourning colours (violet) and white flowers and in memory of each of the soldiers mentioned, a wreath was pfre» sented and placed on the altar steps. An appropriate address was given by the Vicar (Rev W. C. Wood) who took for his text " In quietness and confidence shall be your strength " The Dead March was played on the organ by Miss Willis ana an offertory was taken up on behalf of the local War Memorial Fund. A combined Teligious service waa also held in the Methodist Church the same evening when a large congregation was present the service being conducted by the Rev Hales (Presbyterian minister) assisted by the Rev Jones (Methodist). An appropriate address was delivered by the Rev Hales, and the singing was led by a choir of forty voices. The service was a most impressive one.
