LOCAL AND GENERAL.

The usual monthly meeting of the Franklin County Council takes place on Thursday next. The Franklin County Council invite tenders for the lease of the quarry reserve at Aka Aka. For particulars see advt.

Pariculars of entries for the N.Z. Loan and Mercantle Agency Coy's sale of horses to be held at Pukekohe next Monday are advertised in this issue.

Mr A. A. Civil, land agent, of Pukekoho, announces that he has taken Mr V. S. Roberts into partnership and that the business will in future be carried on under the title of Civil and Roberts.

In a replace advt. in this issue Mr W, Eoulston announces special reductions, commencing tomorrow and extending for a fortnight, in drapery and millinery goods at his establishment in Fukekohe.

A sale of household effects on behalf of Mr W. Long, who has disposed of the property and is leaving the district, is to be carried out at the residence in Prospect Terrace, Pukekohe, on Wednesday next by Messrs J. T. Stembridge and Co, Mr A. A. Civil, of Pukekohe, reports the following sales through his agency viz :—Mr A. H. Baker's Farm of 25£ acres at Pukekohe ; Mr E. Pausett's House and 2 acres at Pukekohe; Mr P. Jackson's House and Section at Pukekohe; Mrs Long's House and 2 acres at Pukekohe ; Mr W. M. Smith's 23 acres at Buckland, and Mr J. Ferguson's House and 3.1 acres at Pukekohe.

A well attended social, dance and farewell to Private George Golding on final leave was given in the Pukekohe East Public Hall on Thursday evening last. Mr J. Glenie acted as Chairman, and wished the guest of the evening every good luck and trusted he would have a safe return home again. The duties of M. C. were capably carried out by Mr J. Glenie, the dance music being supplied by Mrs Keane, Miss Fitness, and Mr W. Howard, and extras by the Misses Morgans (2) and Miss Beryl Maxwell. Altogether a thoroughly enjoyable evening was spent.

A reminder is given that subscriptions to the NZ. Government's war loan close on Monday next. The loan is aptly described as the "Liberty Loan " as only by the provision of the necessary finance can the Allies prosecute the war to a successful end. Every little helps and the loan can be subscribed to in large or small amounts. Full particulars can be obtained at any postal money order office or bank.

Always active in doing their share towards providing for the comfort of " the boys " in the trenches the memof the Fukekohe branch of the Women's Patriotic League are now preparing for a patriotic exhibition to be held in the Premier Hall on Thursday and Fiidayof next week The opening ceremony is to be performed on the Thursday at 2 30 p.m by Mrs Gunson (Mayoress of Auckland). As part of the exhibition thtr« is to be a display of horticultural and home industrial exhibits etc., entries for which will be received at Mr Lawrie's ofhce on Tuesday and Wednesday next. Schedules containing particulars of the competitions can be obtained on application to the Hon. Sec (Mrs J. M. Baxter). Stage competitions are also advertised in this issue.
