WAIAU PA
On Wednesday of last week a musical evening was held in the Public Hall in honour of Mr and Mrs J. Wansbono, who were leaving to take up residence at Huntly. On behalf af the assembled company Mr A. G. Grin'er presented Mr Wansbone with a fountain pen and Mrs Wansbone with a silver vase and referred to the good qualities of citizenship displayed by Mr Wansbone, especially in regard to his activity in educational matters. In replying, Mr Wansbone, who is a member of the retiring School Committee, expressed the hope that as much interest as last year would be taken in the approaching School Committee election. Mr and Mrs nalliday were among the principal contributors to the musical programme and a most enjoyable evening was spent.
The Waiau lands have produced excellent yields of oats and as a result a much larger area than usual is beiee prepared for that particular form dTSwreal, sowing now being in
progress. Top-dressing with lime has been responsible for great growth of grass in paddocks in the district where treated and cocksfoot especially seems to make considerable headway thereby.
Acoarespondentwrites : "Once again grading on the PatumahoeWalau Pah main road has been delayed until the advent of rain and the works now being carried out are likely to be followed in winter by mud galore like last year. When will the County Council learn their lesson ?
