As the result of recent rains that dainty edible the mushroom has made its appearance in fairly considerable quantities.

Mosquitoes are still present in great numbers, and Messrs Fear's Pharmacy state that the. demand for their Mosquito oil is still keen There is no doubt this Mosquito foil has been a great boon during the last two or three months, and by its use much peaceful sleep has been gained and a lot of questionable language avoided.

A farewell social in honour of Lieut. McGovern is to be held in the Premier Hall, Pukekohe, next Tuesday evening. This young officer first served at Samoa and subsequently was in the firing line both in Egypt and France. He recently returned to the Dominion on being awarded a commission and will shortly be again leaving for the front.

A quiet but pretty wedding took place at the Pukekohe Methodist Church on Wednesday last the contracting parties being Miss Annie Maria Nielson, youngest daugher of Mrs A K. Nielson of Pukekohe, late of Taranaki, and Mr Le.die M. Fraser, of Wantranui. The Rev. .1. F. Martin officiated The bridesmaid was Miss V. L. Williams (Auckland) the train bearer being the little Misses Evelyn Jackson and Maisie Martin. Mr A. E Elliott pave the bride away and Mr H. P. Collins (Takapuna) acted as best man. The bride's dress was of white crepe de cheue and she wore the customary veil and orange blossoms The

bridesmaid was attired in a dress of white silk trimmed with pink, with pink hat to match. The little train bearers were prettily dressed in pink silk. A reception was afterwards

held at the Carnival Tea Rooms where the usual toasts were proposed and honoured.

Mr John Beatty, on behalf ot Messrs W. and K. Fletcher Ltd., will be purchasing pigs at Aka Aka and Waiuku next Wednesday.

The N.Z. Farmers' Co-op. Bacon and Meat Packing Coy. Ltd- will be buying pigs next week as follows : at Pukekohe on Tuesday, at Papakura and Runciman on Wednesday, and at Buckland on Thursday Mr. H. E. Pacey, Managing Director of the New Zealand Dairy Association Limited is still confined to his house through serious illness. He is now progressing favourably but it is expected that he will be confined to hi? home for some little time.

A " First Offender " was convicted and prohibited at the Pukekohe Police Court on Tuesday for having been drunk and disorderly at Patumahoe on Easter Monday evening. He was also required to pay the cost of a conveyance hired by the police at Pukekohe in connection with his arrest.

At the annual conference of the N.Z. Coach and Motor Vehicle Trades Industrial Association of Employers held at Christchurch this week Mr. C. Cooper, a member of the firm of Messrs Cooper and Curd, Pukekohe, was elected vice-president as representing the North Island.

Maxwell, of Pukekohe, who is attached to the the 16th Reinforce ments and who has been an inmate of the Walton-on-Thames Military Hospital in England, has recently undergone an operation for removal of shell from the chest wich has proved successful.

An unwelcome visitor that had been creating slaughter in not a few poultryjards in the vicinity of Harrington Avenue, Pukekohe, was detected one night last week by Mr J Kennelly. Having found several ofhis chickens mysteriously killed of late, Mr Kennelly was on the alert for the culprit and on the sound of hens cackling Mr Kennelly rose from his bed and proceeded to his fowlhouse where he discovered a large wild ferret wreaking damage. Before the animal could make good its escape Mr Kennelly " despatched "it with a prong.

Successful Sunday School Anniversary Services were held in the Pukekohe Methodist Church on Sunday last when the preacher both morning and evening was the Rev J. F. Martin. In the afternoon Mr J. Hunter (Otahuhu) delivered an address to the scholars and parents which was appreciated. At all the services special hymns were sung by the choir and scholars assisted by an efficient orchestra under the biton of Mr V. S. Roberts, choirmaster. The anniversary was continued on Wednesday last when a full musical programme was provided. Several recitations were contributed by the scholars and special hymns and musical items were given by the choir and scholars. The Rev. J. F. Martin presided over a large attendance. This being the 36th anniversary of the Sunday School the Vicar (the Rev. J. P. Cowie) in a pleasant speech offered his congratulations and wished the school every prosperity. The School Secretary (Mr Mee) presented his report on the year's work which showed that the school was in a satisfactory condition. Prizes were distributed for regular attendance and good conduct. A vote of (hanks was passed to Mr Robeits for his services in training the children for the entertainment and to all those who had assisted to make the anniversary services a success. At the conclusion supper was provided and served by members of the choir.
