DRURY
FARMERS' UNION MEETING.
The annual meeting of the Drury Branch of the Farmers' Union was held last Saturday evening* a goodly number of members being present. The report and balance sheet were read by the Secretary (Mr Fielding) and the latter showed a substantial credit balance. Mr Glasson was re-elected President, Mr James Fitzgerald Vice-President, and Mr Fielding Secretary and Treasurer.
It was decided to hold the meetings of the Branch monthly during the coming year. After an interesting discussion it was resolved to forward remits to the Provincial Conference in respect to the difficulty now experienced by owners of young stock in consequence of the inoculation regulations and also in regard to the meat trust menace. The action of the Valuation Department in regard to the recent re-assessment came in for severe comment, and by the tone of the meeting it appeared that the ratepayers who happened to have their property within the boundary of the old Drury Road Board district are not likely to pay two-thirds of the rates collected over the whole Riding without protest. Members considered that if any revaluations were necessary or warranted the whole Riding should be re-assessed so as to place the whtle of the ratepayers of the Riding on the same footing. It was unanimously resolved to forward a strong protest to the Department pointing out the anomaly, and its injustice to the ratepayers of the district if not remedied and it was further decided to convene a meeting immediately a reply is received from the Valuation Department to consider if further action be necessary. It was also agreed to forward a vote of thanks to the Editor of "The Times" for his recent leading article on the subject. A subscription list, in aid of the King Country fire fund, was opened in the room, Mr McCorquindale heading the list with £2 2s, £3 of the Branch funds was voted, and with other amounts contributed a sum of £l3 10s was collected at the meeting.
