EAST TAMAKI.
A meeting of the ratepayers of the East Tamaki Road District was held on Wednesday evening to discuss the question of merging the road district into the Manukau County. Mr R. C. Wallace, chairman of the Road Board, presided and paid that two ratepayers were now obtaining signatures to a petition to the Manukau County Couniil to declau}. the Road Board dissolved, anc" JA-oad district merged into the JWTnty. He expressed the opinion that the proper course would have been to call a meeting of the ratepayers first.
After a lively discussion a resolution was carried by a substantial majority disapproving of the action of the two ratepayers in raising the petition without being authorised. A further resolution was carried, adjourning discussion of the question for 12 mouths to give the ratepayers time to assure themselves whether the proposed merging would be advisable.
