MANUKAU COUNTY COUNCIL
Monthly Meeting.
At a meeting of the Manukau County Council held in Auckland on Tuesday last there were present: Crs A. D. Bell (chairman), J. Luke, 8. W. House, F. H. Brownhill, A. Muir, F. M. Waters, and A. E. Hattaway, with the Clerk (Mr A. Bell). STATION' ROAD, WIRI. In connection with the application by the Council to certain adjoining owners to give land, one half-chain in width, along the frontages leading to the Wiri Railway Station for the purpose of providing a wider road than at present to the Wiri Railway Station it was reported that Mrs M. E. Brown and Messrs A. S. and W. Holmes had all agreed to give land free of cost provided the Council set back the fences to the proper boundary and paid for any legal or survey expenses. It was arranged that the Foreman (Mr Dixon) should meet the owners and agree as to the setting back of the fences.
WAR FUND COLLECTIONS. In a circular letter from the Min'ster of Internal Affairs it was stated that permits to a person for the collection of war funds should only be granted on certain conditions and that a statement relating to such persons should be furnished on the prescribed form to the Department. It was particularly asked that care should be taken before such permits were granted by the Council so that the public could be protected.
MANUREWA OVERITEAD BRIDGE. In connection with the petition presented by the ratepayers of the Manurewa Town Board that a Special Order should be obtained by the Council for the grant of a loan of £2OOO to meet the expenses of providing the approaches to an overhead bridge on the north of the present Manurewa Railway Station, to be erected by the Railway Department conditionally on the Board making the approaches, the Council discussed tho subject which had been previously before them. In the course of such discussion Cr Waters remarked that before anything could be decided upon the Council should be furnished with all plans, specifications and particulars together with any correspondence between the Manurewa Town Board and the Railway Department. Mr Corin (the Chairman of the Manurewa Town Board), who was in attendance, promised that all documents held by the Board would be submitted to the Council and said he would be pleased to assist the Council in every way possible to secure the graat of the loan required. On the motion of Cr Muir it was resolved that the Council should accede to the request of the petitioners in raising a special loan of £2OOO for the approaches to the bridge, provided that the guarantees by the ratepayers and Railway Department would be carried out satisfactorily PAPAKT/RA TOWX BOAR I)'S AREA.
On the motion of Cr Muir it was resolved to agree to the proposal of the Papakura Town Board, as submitted in a petition received, for the Board's area to be extended so as to include some 40 acres now in Manukau County.
WAJROA BRIDGES. With reference to the need for the rebuilding of certain bridges, regarded as dangerous, in the VVairoa Riding which had from time to time been so reported on by the Council's Foreman, it was agreed that the repair of those should be undertaken in the interests of the public. Accordingly, on the motion of (Jr Bell it was resolved to apply for a Special Loan of £ISOO to enable the Council to carry out such work, the money to be apportioned to the bridges as follows : Creamery £-100, Brown's £SOO, Campbell's £.iOO and the Racecourse bridge £.'500. The Clerk was instructed to take the necessary steps to secure the loan.
SALARY INCREASES, Following on applications for increases in their salaries the Clerk [Mr A. Bell) and Foreman (Mr C. ])ixon) were granted increases ef £25 and £')2 per annum respectively, the latter increase to date from the beginning of the year. FOREMAN'S report. The Foreman (Mr C. Dixon) presented his report as follows : Mangere Riding.-The cutting down of the-hill in Massey Road had been commenced and the work of removing the metal was done by the County plant. Further quarrying had been done in Gray's pit and about -'3OO yards had been quarried. He suggested that these spawls should ho caned to the corner of Buckland Road.- On the motion of Cr House it was agreed to call tenders for carting about KOO yards of metal from Gray's fit to Buckland Road.

Tho cutting and tilling at McPliersou'a Hill wa . well in hand and ho anticipated completing tho earthwork this week The outlol diain on I'apakura flat through Mr Evans' place needed attention, about three dajs for one man would be sufficient. The quick
hedge on corner near wharf at Clevedon on Mr A. McNicol's property required attention as it was a very dangerous corner There was also a dangerous corner on Mr S. Fan's property on Ness Valley Road due to ti-tree and gorse. The report was adopted. \i I OUNTS.
