MANUREWA
WAKE-UP, MANUREWA. [To THE EDITOB] Sir,— Manurewa, as a progressive suburb, is constantly justifying its call for more postal, railway and educational facilities but these are persistently withheld, the district thus being penalised and kept back because the public (or their representatives) are apparently satisfied with existing conditions. Whilst we read of an Auckland supplementary post office to be built at the cost of several thousands the postal work of this district is carried out in a small hired room by three persons who have not as much convenience as a basin and water in which to rinse their hands. There is no delivery of letters, no private boxes, but such primitive conditions as would not obtain in a backblocka store.
Again, at our new and up-to-date railway station there is not an out* side seat provided. Several push trucks adorn the station and the Department are evidently satisfied that these afford sufficient seating accommodation for suburban residents and visitors.
In our public school unhealthy and crowded conditions prevail, but why pursue the subject further. The authorities, be it postal, railway or educational, will not do anything till our public wake-up.—l am, etc., ENOS S. PEGLEB.
