TUAKAU.

At the annual meeting of the Tuakau Women's Patriotic League held on Thursday the 14th February last the following officers were elected : President, Mrs Hunter (re-elected), vice-president, Mrs Dynes Fulton; Dominion gift and literature committee, Mesdames Paul and C. Osbourne, convenor of Red Cross Committee, Mrs W. G. Graham; Red Cross committee, Mesdames W. Smeed, senr.,' and Tregurtha ; secretary and treasurer, Mrs P. Lewis (re-elected). A financial statement was submitted for the December quarter showing a credit balance of £24 14s, and it is interesting to note that the receipts for Red Cross teas amounted to £33 15s and entertainments £27 18s 6d. The financial affairs were regarded as encouraging. An interesting letter was received by the League from Pte J. J. T a y lor ot the Ist Auckland Battalion, now at the front, thanking the Tuakau laaus for their kindness to him and f° r the wristlet wa'.ch received on his departure from Tuakau in Aprib 1916. He mentioned that the watch was much prized and had been with him all through the Messines battl e and was still keeping good time. S ee i n g old Tuakau boys was a great pleasure and he had lately had a J arn with two Tuakau "boys" Charlie Lapwoi.d and Arthur Frost. Just a year ago he had landed in France (luring which time he had had experienced many exciting experiences but was fit and well. He was looking forward to a fortnight's leave to England, generally known as '' Blighty Leave." Pte Taylor will be remembered as a prominent Tuakau footballer and was at one time employed as a flaxmill hand. As showing the work the Tuakau lad es are doing for the soldier " boys " it maybe mentioned that for the December quarter the following articles were made and despatched to the boys at the front: tiO pairs of socks, ■"> scarves, 3 belts and 1 cap.
