NEW MILK RECORD

Mr W. M. Singleton, Assistant Director of the Dairy Division, writing in " The Journal of Agriculture," says: The Friesian cow Woodcrest Johanna Tehee, owned by Mr J. Donald, of Westmere, calved on New Year's Day, thereby completing her certificate-of-record for 21,48311b of milk, containing 754 061b of butterfat. This yield places AVoodcrest Johanna Tehee as the highest milk record cow in New Zealand. She also becomes leader of the senior four-year-old class for Friesians. Prior to Tehee finishing her test the leadership of the senior four-year-olds was held by Mr W. Barton's Salnia Johanna Lyons, with a certifi-cate-of-record (completed last year) for 21,4:](VHlb milk, containing 730191b fat. Salma's record also placed her as our highest milk record cow—a position which she has maintained until Tehee finished her production now under notice. which exceeds that of Salma by 43 31b milk.

Woodcrest Johanna Tehee had previously been on test as a senior two-year-old, when in 365 days she produced a credit of 14,504-2lb mil if, containing 544 'J lib fat. Her latest record shows that she has " come back " with a most creditahlo performance.

The new milk champion has a dam which, commencing her senii-otficiiil test under two roars of age, produced 14,78621b milk containing 52:5 021b fat Her (Tehee's) sire, Woodcrest Johanna Pietje, is a grandson of the two noted cows •'olantha IVs Johanna and Piet.jn XXII. Both of these cows were world's champions on long distance tests. Woodcrest Johanna Tehee also carries the blood of Homestead (inl de Kol Sarcastic Lad and of Sir Fayne Concordia, and, given an opportunity, it would appear that she could scarcely fail in heavy production. Woodcrest Joe, the Friesian sire at the Contral Development Farm, Weraroa, is 100 per cent the same breeding as the sire of our new champi'/D milk producer, while Mr J Donald's imported bull Woodcrest Pietje Pontiac, and this cow's sire, are from the Siimo daughter of Pietje XXII.
