RAGLAN COUNTY COUNCIL
For the rating period, Ist April, 1917, to 31st March, 1918, the total amouDt of rates due by ratepayers to the Raglan County is £14020. Rate demands to cover the above amount were duly posted on the Ist September, 1917, and the last lot of rates were paid on the 20th February 1918, thus making the tenth successive year that the Raglan County Council has collected the whole of its European rates in each year before the 31st March.
As to rates due by Natives, more has been collected this year through certain legal action being taken. On the Ist October, 1917, a total of £3590 was due by Natives for the present year's rates and arrears and to date a sum of £445 has been recovered. The gradual passing of Native land into the hands of Europeans is greatly relieving the situation and also bringing these lands into productive occupation.
