AUCKLAND PRODUCE MARKET REPORT
Mr J. Jones, Auctioneer, Victoria and Lome streets, Auckland, reports under date of Saturday, Feb. 2nd, as follows: The potato market at present is glutted, and large number of lines are affected with the blight. Values have receded from last quotation. Second quality potatoes are hard to sell and sales are slow. Onions are in good demand. Poultry came forward in large numbers to a steady market. Poor conditioned birds are in strong demand. We quote: Farm produce: Potatoes prime nominal 7s, good £6 to £6 ss, inferior £3 to £4 ; onions 9s to 10s 6d; butter Is Id to Is 2d; eggs Is 7d to Is 9d ; bacon Is 2d ; ham Is 2d ; dressed pork 7£d to B^d. Poultry : Hens, prime 2s 6d to 3s 2d, light Is 6d to 2s 2d; ducks, young according to condition 2s to 3s 2d, old ducks Is 3d to ls8d; roosters, prime 5s 6d, good Is to 4s 9d, smaller 2s <sd to 3s: chicks 6d to Is; turkey gobblers 9s to 13s, turkey hens 5s to 7s, pigs 15s to £1 9s 6d. Fruit: Apples 4s to 6s; plums, English, 3s to 4s 3d, Burbanks 2s to 3s ; pears 4s .to 7s 9d ; lemons 9s to 12s fid, rough 5s to 6* ; grapes Is 3d ; Tomatoes Si to ss. Grain: Maize 8s 3d; wheat 8s; barley 5s 9(i ; oats Is 10.1 ; chaff, southern, £lO 10.-; locil £fi 15s to £" 15s.
