AUCKLAND MARKET REPORT

Mr J. Jones, auctioneer, Victoria and Lome Street, Auckland, reports under date of January 19th, as follows The market this week has been steady though a large volume of trade has been done. The poultry market was very heavily supplied and for good heavy birds satisfactory prices were realised though the market is much easier. Old ducks and small young ducks are very low in value and hard to quit at any price. Poor hens are not in heavy pemand. Owing to the high price of grain clients are now clearing the stocks. Thus the market will not show any improvement in value for some time. Small chicks are practically unsaleable. Potatoes and onions are slightly easier. The fruit market is well supplied and values are about same as last reports. We quote : Poultry—(2lßo penned}. Hens, extra heavy, 3s to 3s 6d ; good, 2s 9d to 3s; small, Is 9d to 2s 3d.
