The Committee organising the children's sports, which are to be a particular feature of the patriotic carnival to be held on Saturday, February 16th, appeal to the public for support in the way of donations in cash or in kind for prizes. Such can be forwarded either to Messrs Andrew and Andrew, Mr John Hall or Mr J. H. Nodwell. The Otahuhu Magistrate's Court statistics for the year ending December 31st last show that 68 charges were dealt with as against 80 in the previous year. On the civil side 125 plaints were entered and judgment was given for £6BO 12s lOd as against 120 plaints issued in 1916 and £BOI 5s 9d being recovered. Mr John Wilson, the manager for Otahuhu of the Auckland Gas Com- • pony, who was recently drawn in the ballof, has been medically passed for service and expects to enter camp on the 2nd May next Mr Wilson voluDtflered for service about two jears ago but was rejected. Besidps being Captain of the Otahuhu Volunteer Fire Brigade he has always been associated with many movements for the advancement of the town. He was also a prominent member of the late Borough Council. Sergt. Harvey, who has been on holiday leave, returns to take up his police duties on Saturday next. An old military warrior passed away at the advanced age of 81 years on Thursday last in the person of Mr John Cady, late of the 40th Regiment. The deceased, who had lived for many years in Otahuhu, was highly respected throughout the district The funeral took place on Saturday last.
