Entries are solicited The rights of the publican's booth, the light iuncheon booth, and for the sale of fruit and cordials for the forthcoming Franklin A. and P. Society's Show are to be submitted to auction by Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons Ltd. at the Pukekohe Horse Bazaar next Monday at 1.30 p.m. The Executive of the Franklin A and P. Society appeal to settlers of the district to do their utmost in every possible way despite war con ditions and other drawbacks to render the annual show to be held on February 2'2nd and 23rd a success. Entries close un Tuesday, February oth. Mr Ernest Drake, the popular tenor who is to appear in Pukekohe next Thursday, was discovered by Mr Phil Newbury and learnt his singing in Dunedin. It is not his fault that he is not now wearing khaki As a matter of fact he has worn it. He enlisted and went into camp at Trentham, but after heing there some two months he was rejected by the examining doctor on account of rheumatism. At a public meeting convened by the Mayor (Mr H. Q. B. Mason} and held in the Pukekohe Borough Council Chambers last Tuesday evening, it was resolved to fall into line with arrangements made in Auckland and toobserve Adniversary Day this year on Monday, the 2Sth inst, instead of on Tuesday, the 29th inst. In an advt this issue the Mayor requests citizens to observe Anniversary day on the Monday and a number of firms also announce their acquiescence in the arrangement. For some little time past an apparition in white has at night-time been haunting the western outskirts of Pukekohe and "both women and men coming suddenly on the ghostly object have received a shock that to say the least upset their nerves. With a view of unravelling the mystery search parties were instituted but although the hunt frequently observed their quarry the nebulous figure floated out of their gaze or more correctly speaking successfully eradod pursuit. One evening this week, however, " the ghost " was tracked up and captured and was found to be a lady resident, whose reasons for masquerading as a visitant from the " spirit " world have not been disclosed. Needless to say, however, in the Pukekohe roads is no longer to be seen the figure in white that savoured of the super-natural.
