CLEVEDON.

The Clevedoo Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club's Courts presented an animated appearance on Saturday last, the occasion being a Red Cross afceruoon arranged by the local branch of the League. Among the various attractions, besides croquet and tennis on the live courts, were two gaily decorated stalls, one offering sweets, confectionery, etc., and the other a miscellaneous assortment of useful articles, commonly known as a jumble stall. Nail driving and guessing competitions also contributed their share to the funds, a sumptuous afternoon tea as well, being dispensed by the lady members of the Clubs. Willing workers in charge of the stalls, competitions, etc , were Mrs J Sutherland (the ctpable secretary of the branch), Mfsdames W. J. llyde and Gee, Misses Thorp, Dow, 15. Browne, McPherson, Shaw (2) and Frazer. The winners of the competitions were ; nail driving, ladies, Mrs Hyde; men, Mr C. R. Crispe; guessing, Miss D. Roe JL'he well-known firm of Holliday and Hulloway, geneial storekeepers and 'bus proprietors have disposed of their busiuess to Mr J. Corringham, of Birkenhead As the new owner is not continuing the 'bus service to r..pakura, Mr J, Paton, the mail contractor, is now running a car twice a daj%a* well as the ordinary mail 'bus.

Thanks to the excellent weather experienced for haymaking during the lait month, almost every farmer h;ts now his crop biiely stacked for the winter, jjjthough there are a few ciops still out. Iniercofsion services were held at Ail Souls' Anglican Church on Sunday, Rev J. King-Davis, M.A , of the Grammar School, pleaching both morning and evening. At the Pivsbyteiiau Church ihe services were conducted hy Rev J. \ . Jacobsen. Four well known Clevodon farmers Messrs C. Atchison, A. D. Bell, \V T. bell and J. K Wilson, have just completed a comprehensive week's tour ot the Nor'Ji Auckland Peninsula. Tlie party, who travelled in Mr Atchison's car, arrived hack on >uuday lait, after a very enjoyable and successful trip.
