OTAHUHU

BOROUGH COUNCIL FINANCE A report as to the Borough Council finance was submitted by the Town Clerk (Mr W. J. Dinnison at last Thursday's Council meeting. The receipts for the month of December amounted to £530 5s 3d and the balances were as under: District fund account (debit) £">l94 14s 3d, Cemetery account (credit) £59 16s 3d, Park account (credit) 4s 6d, Domain account (credit) £2l lis 4d The expenditure to date on the District Fund Account as from April Ist, including a debit balance brought forward of £2988 17s .3d, had amounted to £7llß 3s Id, while the receipts totalled £3923 8s 10J, leaving a debit balance of £319? 14s 3d. Accounts amounting to £445 10s 7d were presented for payment.

Arising out of the Finance Committee's report Cr Clements enquired if the overdraft (£3191 lis 3d) was likely to be reduced and whether it was higher than the corresponding period last year. The Town Clerk replied that provided no extraoidinary woilc was undertaken the overdraft at the end of the financial year, viz. on March 31st next, would be considerably less than it stood last. vear.

Adjt. Kobert Simpson, of the Salvatftn Army, has received notification front headquarters that he has been transferred to Onehunga. During his stay in Otuhulm lie has made himself popular among all classes. Mis successor is Captain Vivian, who has been lately holding a similar position at Cambridge. A farewell to Adjt. Simpson will take place at the Salvation Army barracks on Sunday next. One of the darkest places at night in Otahuhu is believed to be the corner of King Street and the Main South Road. Otahuhu is not too well lighted but poilnps a hint that a lamp should be placed at the corner in question may be favourably received by the Council.
