LOCAL AND GENERAL.
In pursuance of his annual inspection of the country police stations Supt Kieley visited Pukekohe yesterday. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Mii'iukau County Council takes place next Tuesday. A reminder is given of the clearing sale to be held to-morrow (Wednesday) by Messrs J. T. Stembridge Co. <rn behalf of Mr T. B Hurley 011 his farm at Pukekohe. Full particular,s of the offering are advertised in this issue.
Among a batch of returned soldiers that arrived in Auckland last Saturday were Pte C. E. Elton, of Pukekohe ; Sergt. J. H. Menzies, of Otahuhu ; Pte Philip Peguero, of Mercer: and Lance-Corpl. A. Walden, of Pokeno.
Owing to no cases being down for hearing at the Pukekohe Magistrates Court next Thursday there w ill be no sitting of the Court until Thursday, the 24th inst. On Wednesday, the 23rd inst the hearing of the Mauku Riding election petition will take place at Pukekohe before the Magi.-trate (Mr Wyvern Wilson). The various " boys " returning to camp were given a send-ofi at Pukekohe railway station on Sunday and last evenings. Farewell functions also took place at the week end, Pte. Luke Wilson being entertained hy Mr W. T. Jones at the M asonic iiall on Friday evening, Corpl " Jack " Brown being the guest at a social hel 1 in the Carnival Tea Rooms on Saturday night, and L'te. Frank Graham being farewelled by his fellow members of the Cun Club oif'Saturday. On Sunday at St. Andrew's Church Coryl. J.
