The presented a very pretty appearance with Hags ana i untiug flying and with tents and s alls dotted here and there with wares displuyed, the gardens themselves being gay with ll mors. Alt-r----iiood tea, strawberries and cream were served on the lawn in the shade of the trees while in the centra < f tire drive a heavily iaden Xmas tree, in rhaige of Mrs West assisted by (iidce Allen, as a Red Cross Nurse, and Father Xmas (Mr M. BallardJ was a source of greut attraction for the little ones.

Thomas, and J. McKay, all in the Red Cross uniform. Strawberries and cream were in the capable hands of Miss L. Alexandef assisted by Misses E. Oldham (Grecian Lady) and A. Sharp (Japanese Lady). The stall holders were : Plain and fancy stall, Mrs Chilton, Mrs Duftv, Misses Biddick and Stephenson; Crockery stall, Mrs Harrison, assisted by Misses 0. Stewart and 0. Smith.(Nurse). Sweets stall, Mrs Fox, assisted by Misses A. Pulman and E. Smith, in Japanese costume. Soft drink stall, Mrs H. Pickard and Miss L. Pulman. Produce stall, Mrs Grattan with Masters W. Biddick F. Cummins, Roy Pilkington, H. Pratt, H. Quinn, J. Eccles, and W. Yince assisting. Competitions, Mrs Oldham, assisted by Misses J. McKay (Red Cross Nurse), Sylvia Oldham (Japanese Girl), Dora Baker (Red Cross Nurse), Annie Dufty (Ireland), M. Baker (Shepherdess), and Willie Hughes. Mary West, as a Military Nurse with her Red Cross box, was irresistible and had to have the box emptied several times, thereby making a good addition to the fund. Six Dutch dolls were also helping where needed and several other little girls looked very neat in their different costumes, but were too numerous to be mentioned individually. Mrs Yince was caretaker of the art gallery, which did good ness.

The surprise packets were quickly disposed of by Mr Irvine and his assistant, Mr Trimmer, the ability of these two as salesmen proving that they have mistaken their calling. Charlie Chaplin proved a source of great amusement, Mr K. Trimmer looking after his interests. The shooting gallery was conf]acted by Messrs Alexander (2) in their usual genial way and was a great attraction to the young folk. Mr Swinburn (Chairman School Committee) followed with a noat speech, and the fete was declared open. During the afternoon several items were given in the grounds by the children, who had been carefully trained by Mrs and Miss Trimmer, and in the evening a torch-light procession took place, a troup of minstrels, headed by Father Xmas, playing Negro airs on the accordeon. After marching around the grounds they drew up at the shelter shed, where they further amused those present with minstrel songs and dances.
