PAPAKURA.
An accident happened on Wednesday evening last on the Great South Road Papakura, when a horse driven in a sulky took fright resulting in Mr and Mrs E. 8. Cole and Miss Waters, who were the occupants of the vehicle, being thrown out, the two former receiving a severe shaking It appears that the party were returning from the beach when the horse shied. Fortunately Dr Brook field was passing the scene at the time of the accident and attended to Mr and Mrs Cole. Mr 0. Willis kindly driving them home in his car. Miss Waters who was not so badly injured and did not n»d medical aid was taken to Mr Willis' bouse. It was at first thought that Mrs Cole was seriously injuied but yesterday it was understood her injuries were not so serious although she and her husband both received a severe shaking. At the Methodist Hall on Tuesday last a farewell s< cial was tendered to Pte Hugh Matheson by the Papakura Presbyterian Bible Class, of which Church be was a member During the interval the guest of the evening was presented by the Pa«tor (the Bev T. H. Hales) with a safety razor and testament accompanied by the best wishes of all. Pte Matheson suitably replied. An <. xcellent programme of vocal and instrumental jnusic was presented. Songs were rendered by the Misses Bhepherd (2), Cooper, King and Hutchinson. Messrs Qibbs and 8. Wilson, the latter also contributing a cornet solo. Miss M. McLennan gave a pianoforte solo and the Bev F. H. Hales contributed a recitation.
