TUAKAU.
(See also page 4.) SCHOOL ROLL OF HONOUR. UNVEILING CEREMONY. The ceremony of unveiling a Roll of Honour in'the Tuakau School took place on Wednesday, the 19th fast. There was a large attendance of parents, children and visitors. Amongst those present Were Messrs R; F. Bollard, M;P, D; Fulton (Chair man of the Tuakau Town Board), Keyes (Chairman OneWhero School Committee), Deeble (Chairman Harrisville School Committee) and H. Wilcox (County Councillor). Mr E. T. Frost, Chairman oi the School Committee presided and in his opening remarks referred to the fact that the reverberation of the great war had been heard in that small corner of the Empire and that the old pupils of the school had nobly responded. He exhorted the children to do their duty now so that when they grew up to manhood, if ever such a crisis arose again which our " Boys " were fighting to prevent, they would respond as nobly as the ones whose names they were placing on record that day. Mr Fulton also complimented the school on its record and paid a tribute to those whose names were enrolled on the Honour's Board. Mr Graham* Headmaster, next gave th« children a strirring address on " Duty '' and Messrs Wilcox and Deeble also addressed the gathering. The ceremony of unveiling the Roll of Honour was performed by Mr Bollard MP., who referred to the great sacrifices that were being made. He reminded the children that the next best friend they had outside their homes was the Schoolmatter. He congratulated the School on its record and ; expressed pleasure at being present on such an occasion.
Mr Bollard then drew the curtain aside and unveiled tho 801 l of Honour. This artistic piece of work, which is about 4ft 6in high by 3ft 6in wide, is of polished rimu. The names thereon, 28 in number, are in gold lettering. The board is surmounted by the Mew Zealand flag and the Union Jack in colours. Several names have yet to be added. The work was executed by Messrs L. S. Kelly and Co, of Auckland, and is a masterly piece of workmanship. / At the conclusion of the ceremony the National Anthem was sung and the assembly then adjourned to the Domain where the children and visitors were entertained, a very enjoyable afternoon being spent.
