Tuakau Domain

| To the Editor] Sir. Like M. Fulton's letter in your issue of the 14th mst. this i* my final com intubation on the above BUt'j ct Mr Fulton now admits that the report " gave the substance of the deputation's request,'' so after all the report must stand as correct. I cannot understand Mr Fulton not i knowing there was a controlling body as it was common knowledge, 1 still ask " why all the secrecy," because even admitting the deputation's ignorance of the fact that there was a Domain Board the public had a right to be consulted in the matter There has been nothing loose about the appointment of members of the Domain Board as one would suppose from Mr Fulton's letter. The last vacancy was filled by the Governor in accordance with the regulations and notice of the same duly appeared in the "NZ Gazette." Now regarding the question as to the little use made of the Domain, I have definite knowledge that when a certain function was arranged by a Church to take place, it was suggested that it be held in the Domain. Two members of the Town Board, who wjere also connected with church affitirs, set their faces against it and even went so far as to threaten to withdraw their support if the suggestion was carried out. For the sake of peace the proposal was abandoned. This is simply a boycott of the Domain and proves my former statement that it is the people's own fault that it is not used more. Mr Fulton makes out the Domain property to be of the value of about £1620, thus proving my former as sertion that it is one of the finest pieces of Domain property n*ar Auckland, and as ho has offered no other for comparison he has simply confirmed my sta' ements. As to the return being only about two per cent, while not admitting this to be correct, I would mention that there are other conditions in the lease which are equivalent to extra rent and which bring it considerably over that figure. As for saying it is useless to the public such is quite contrary to fact. In conclusion, I have to thank you for valuable space given in your paper to ventilate this matter of public interest.—l am, etc., HUGH McGUIRE Chairman Tuakau Domain Board Tuakau, December 20th. 1917
