Seven! local soldiers returned from camp this morning to Pokekohe on final leave for the 'Xmas holiday?. They are to be entertained at a dance in the Premier Hall on Thursday next and will be officially farewelled by the Boldiert' Farewell Committee on Thursday, January 3rd.
The Pukekohe Soldiers' Farewell Committee are arranging a monster public farewell in the Premier Hall for Thursday, January 3rd, to the boys on leave from camp. There are a large number of our soldiers now on leave and the public are invited to interest themselves in this farewell and help the Committee to make it the huge success that it should be. The boys are requested to arrange their time so that all may be present The Committee also invite all the returned soldiers in Pukekohe to be present.— Advt. Two active members of the Pukekohe branch of the Women's Patriotic League in the persons of Mrs Mark Thornell (Pukekohe) and Miss S. Glover (Puni) were entertained at an afternoon tea party on Thursday last by their fellow-members of the > League as a farewell to them prior to their departure from the district. The gathering took place at Mrs McOovern's boarding-house, the President (Miss Y. Webster) being in the chair and the attendance numbering about 40. A small presentation was made to each of the guests, both of whom suitably acknowledged them same. Messrs CK. Lawrie, A. B Barter, and K. F. Webster, in their capacity as Justices of the Peace, waited on the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey) at Pukekohe station on his return from Wainku on Saturday last and draw his attention to the inadequate accommodation at the Pukekohe Court House. They asked that in.proved facilities should be provided for the convenience of the police and public generally. The Prime Minister promised thattbe matter would receive his attention.
As from yesterday and up to January 7th Pukekohe is being served by two express trains, both morning and afternoon. The 9.15 am train from Auckland, taking passengers for the Thames line and Cambridge, calls at Pukekohe at 10.37 a.m., and the 10 a.m train from Auckland for Eotorua and Taumarunui calls at 11.12 a.m. In the afternoon the train from Rotor ua for Auckland is timed to stop at Pnkekohe at 343 pm and the express from Thames stops at 4 2 p.m. being due in Auckland at 5.20 pm. Otherwise the train service is as usual. In connection with the forthcom* ing Franklin A. and P. show Messrs A. B Barter and C. K Lawrie informed the Prime Minister (the Bt. Hon. W. F. Masse}) when he was in Pukekohe on Saturday last that the Society were anxious to released from the vacant section held under lease from the Railway Department and expressed the hope that Mr Massey would assist them towards that end. They also reminded Mr Massey of ihe request made recently to him at Tuakau for some better train facilities to be afforded in connection with the show. In reply the Premier said he would assist the Society by conferring with the Minister for Railways.
