PAPATOETOE
A sacred cantata entitled ' The Eastern Star." will be rendered by the Choir in the Methodist Church on Sunday evening next. December 23rd, at 7 p.m., Mr W. Firth conducting.—(Advt.) The members of the Pukekohe Tennis Club journeyed to Papatoetoe to play a match against the Papatoetoe Tennis Club last Saturday and after some very exci ingplay Papatoetoe was victorious by seven games to six or 165 points to 133. . Crowded congregations attended the anniversary services of St John's Pieabyterian > v unday School on Sunday last. The church was tastefully decorated with crimson rambler roses interlaced with ivy. Vases of Xaias lillies were also prominent in the front of the pulpit and choir stalls. The singing of the children and choir did credit to the conductor, Mr J. A. Bradstreet. ChaplainCaptain l-haw, M A , occupied the pulpit iu the morning and i elated many touching incidents of his experi'nces in the firing line in Fland'Ts, making special reference to the courage and t< rtitude of our br*ve "boys" at the front. The Rev Chas Porter preached in the evening atd gave a very instructive address to the boys and girls, taking for his subjwt ''The prodigal's son-" The clleitions for the diy are to be devoted to the Sunday School funds.
