Notwithstanding the short notice the Tuakau Ladies League had to prepare for the Red Bross social on Friday last the function proved a success. Held undej the joint aus pices of the League and the local Farmers' Union the meeting was presided over by Mr Dynes Fulton and a enjoyable concert was arranged, the following programme being provided, viz: Songs by Mr Costane, Master Leslie Eoadley and Mrs Taylor; swing song (with limelight effect kindly provided by the Tuakau Picture Company) by the Misses Wickhams, L. Pirret, B. Lewis, Messrs A. Govan, 0. Bell and F. Ryder; recitations by the Misses T. Duffin (Auckland) and Glasgow ; and duet Miss Hunter and Mr Costane. A chorus song entitled " Moonstruck " with coloured lights, the artistes being dressed as pierrots, was rendered by the Misses L. Pirret, B. Lewis, M. Woodbridge, E. Bmeed, F, Lewis, B. Roberts and F. Wickhams and Mrs Hunter and Miss Dickens played the accompani- ! ments. j During the evening Mr Bickford (organiser to the Red Cross) delivered an impressive address on Red Cross work and Mr E. T. Frost spoke on behalf of the Tuakau Farmers' Union. A collection was taken up in aid of the Red Cros9 fund. A dance followed, Mr J. H. Craig acting as M.C. and Messrs Northmore and A. H. Tapper and Mr and Mrs Keppell supplying the music. In the interests of the Red Cross funds a committee of ladies have been busy organising a ch ldren's Red Cross entertainment which is to be held to-morrow (Saturday) at 2 p.m. Games and various attractions are provided. The Roll of Honour designed and executed by Messrs L. C. Kelly and and Co., of Auckland, has arrived and will be submitted to the next meeting of the Tuakau Patriotic League.
